Abstract

This study aimed to explore the types of signs realized and represented in the parasite film and to describe the meaning of the three types of signs: icons, indexes, and symbols. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. These all are conducted by following Peirce’s and Barthes’ semiotic theory as the theoretical framework. The data from this study is the data taken from the script and some scenes in the Parasite film. The results reported fourteen signs consisting of three icons, seven indexes, and four symbols in the Parasite film. The analysis results explained that the denotative and connotative meaning of these three types of signs in each scene of the film represents the phenomenon of social inequality as in the film Parasite portraited that thing.
