Abstract

This research is aimed at identifying the effectiveness of using ice breaking in teaching speaking skill at CEC kampong Pare Mataram. This research is an experimental research that uses quantitative data. The data were taken from the result of two oral tests; pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research is 30 students. Most of students made improvement in their speaking. The improvement of students’ speaking skill was indicated by the mean score of pre-test 43.75 and post-test 55.56. However, this ice breaking had no significant effect on students’ speaking skill. It was indicated by the total value of t-test (0.87) that is lower than the confidence level of 95% and the 2.6% contribution that ice breaking gave to students’ speaking skill.
