Abstract

This thesis deals with the use of Cooperative Learning Jigsaw Model in improving student’s speaking skill in the first grade students of Junior High School 2 Lingsar. The population of the study is 324 students in nine classes ( 36 students in each class ). The writer used purposive random sampling in this research and choosed two classes of the nine classes. The first class is subjected to the treatment of learning application using Cooperative Learning Jigsaw Model. The second class is subjected as the control group which uses Regular Discussion. This study aims identify the use of Cooperative Learning Jigsaw Model in improving student’s speaking skill. The data gained through the administration of pre- test and post- test and document. The writer used purposive random sampling in this research and chooses two of the nine classes. Then the data were analyzed quantitative and the t-test value was calculated. The ttest analysis found the value of 6.87 with is higher that the value of the t-table at confidence level of 95% ( 1.99 ) and 99 % ( 2.64 ). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that teaching speaking skills using Cooperative Learning Jigsaw Model is more effective in increasing student’s speaking skill than using Regular Discussion.
