Abstract

This study aims to identify the types and analyze the most dominant type of illocutionary act used by English Teachers at the second grade of SMAN 01 Dompu. These all are presented by following Searle’s Theory of Speech act. The data was collected using recording and note-taking techniques from language expression used by English Teachers during the teaching and learning process, which are then analyze and presented in the form words, clauses, phrases, and sentences. The result of the data analysis showed that 1) there are 5 types of illocutionary act used by English Teachers, namely, representative, directive, commissive, declarative, and expressive. 2) the most dominant type of illocutionary act used by English teachers in teaching and learning process is directive. From 91 utterances, directive was uttered 42 times which represent 46.1%. It is caused that the most of teachers used directive of command and request to control the classroom, organize the activity and give the instruction that is related to the teaching and learning process.
