Abstract

Students do not have the opportunity to train mentally in learning process, the teacher is still focus on textbook. The objective of this classroom action research is to find out how storytelling can improve speaking skill.The subject of this research was the XI IPA class of students in MA Muallimin NW Gunung Rajak that consists of 23 students consisting of eight males and fifteen females. The procedure of the study consists of four steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The data were collected using observation and testing. The data were analyzed through the process of data reduction, data display and conclusion. Based on the results of the average score of students and the percentage of students achievement from two cycles, it can be concluded that the achievement of students score is better than speaking after the method given. This can be seen from the average value in cycle I 68.9 and the increase in the second cycle 77.5. And also, the percentage of students in cycle II (85%) was higher than cycle I (25%). The result shows that there is an increase from cycle I to cycle II. In conclusion, storytelling can improve the speaking skills of students in XI IPA class at MA Muallimin NW Gunung Rajak.
