Abstract

This research aims to find out strategies used by the English teachers in teaching reading through online class and problems they faced in implementing the strategies. This study is qualitative using questionnaire and interview as the instruments of this research. Respondents of this study were two English teachers who taught grade X at SMAN 1 Madapangga. The data of this study were collected by using questionnaire, interview, and observation. The results of this study show that scaffolding and question-answer relationship are the most frequents teaching reading strategies applied by the teachers. In contrast, reciprocal teaching and think-aloud were the least favorable. Some problems were faced by the English teachers in implementing the strategies including poor internet connection, unsupporting teaching platforms, less interactive students, and assessment method to measure the students’ reading comprehension.
