Abstract

This study entitled ―Critical Discourse Analysis of Donald Trump‘s Speech‖ is a critical discourse analysis of Trump‘s speech on Jerusalem as the capital of Israel delivered at the White House in the U.S on December 06, 2017. The transcript was analyzed in stages: reading, classifying and analyzing, and concluding. Using van Dijk‘s schema theory, the study writer found that the ideology in the speech is marked by high use of activity schema, goal schema, position, and relation schema. Using Taqiuddinan-Nabhani‘s theory of capitalism, the study found that Donald Trump‘s ideology was enacted in implementing, preserving, and conveying it in the speech. Donald Trump used his presidential power, in contrast to other US presidents, when he decided the status of Jerusalem and the Israel-Palestine conflict.
