Abstract

Pandemic conditions make the Government Issue a new policy to implement online learning. This study aimed to (a) explained the teachers’ responses to the demand of teaching English using an online platform, (b) revealed the teachers’ difficulties and obstacles experienced by the teachers in using an online platform, (c) found out how the teachers coped with the difficulties and obstacles experienced by the teachers in using an online platform. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used for the study encompassed interviews, observation, and document analysis. The result of this study showed that teachers' responded positively to the demand of teaching using an online platform, it is in line with government policies; some teachers said that they were not quite ready to teach in pandemic time. The difficulties experienced by teachers are the learning process is not carried out according to the lesson plan; students’ lack of adequate knowledge and skill in using an online platform; the student did not participate in the online class; students’ lack of support for learning English through online classes. To overcome the obstacles, the teachers collaborate with counseling teachers and give students worksheet directly in school.
