Abstract

This thesis is written based on an animation movie by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, The Legend of Korra. The focus of this study is on the social value. The data were gathered through the movie, internet research and library research. This study uses mimetic theory from Abrams and Notonegoro argues which focuses on the form of social value. The method used in this thesis is the Library Research. The results of this research are: (1) The form of social values. (2) How those social value inter-relate to the real life. There is only one main character in the story of the movie; Korra, a strong woman as the young Avatar, keep the world in balance and peace. There are 4 forms of social value found in the movie; (1) Advice, it is shown from Katara to the Korra. (2) Cooperate, it is shown from Korra, Mako, Bolin, and Asami as the Team Avatar that work together to keep balance and peace to the Republic City. (3) Helping, It is shown by Korra who helped Lin Beifong to return her bending. (4) Hospitality, it is shown by Vagabond when he met Korra and her friends, the Team Avatar. After the writer found the social value in the movie, he uses mimetic theory to explain how those social values that inter-relate to the real life.
