Abstract

A remarkable arrival of technology at schools provides so many options for teachers to utilize instructional media. Thus, the era of industrial revolution 4.0 is both a challenge and an opportunity for modern teachers to do some renewal efforts in utilizing sophisticated educational technologies to enhance the quality of the English teaching and learning process. This study aims at describing; 1) the level of English teachers’ readiness and willingness to use ICT in the teaching practice; 2) how English teachers respond the demands of ICT use; 3) what challenges that the teachers face in the use of ICT in the teaching process. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The respondents were 35 English teachers, and the participants were six English teachers of the selected State Junior High School in Central Lombok. I used the following procedures: survey, interview, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the level of English teachers’ readiness in implementing ICT in teaching practice was 67.5%. It is categorized in average and that teachers’ readiness level are varied from person to person. The participants have different responses to the demands of ICT use for teaching. Many teachers are willing to change their teaching paradigm and work orientation. However, there are still many of 35 participants who struggle to adjust to the new learning trends. There are several obstacles and challenges faced by teachers participating in the study, i.e. the lack of teachers’ creativity, doubt with the effectiveness of e-learning, loss of learning time and the like.
