Abstract
This thesis is entitled “An Error Analysis in Using Present Continuous Tense: A Case Study at The Second Grade Students of Hotel Department of SMKN 4 Mataram Academic Year 2014/2015” is aimed at finding out the errors, types of errors, what errors they mostly did, and what caused the errors that are shown in the present continuous tenses made by the second year students of SMKN 4 Mataram. The subjects of this research are the entire class of Hotel Department 1 and 2 in SMKN 4 Mataram consisting 45 students. The writer collected the data by giving the students test and questionnaire. The results of tests found that there are four types of errors that were made by the students, they are Omission Errors (OM), Addition Errors (ADD), Misformation Errors (MF) and Misordering Errors (MO). It is also found that from the total number of 315 errors made by students, there are 128 in OM, 66 in ADD, 114 in MF and 7 in MO. The percentages of errors are shown in such types as 40,63% in OM, 20,95% in ADD, 36,19% in MF and 02,22% in MO. Besides, the results of questionnaires was found that there were 38 from 45 students whose English was influenced by first Language (L1).
