Abstract

This study aims to investigate whether there is any significant difference in students‟ ability in answering word choice and word forms questions in TOEFL-like SWE test based on gender. This study is quantitative ex post facto research using non-experimental data. Ninety four students of English Department, University of Mataram were involved as the population of this research and fifty percent of them was randomly taken as the sample. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a significant difference between male and female students‟ ability in answering word form and word choice question. The hypothesis was tested using independent t-test in SPSS21. The result of this study shows that there is no significant difference of performance between male and female students in answering word form and word choice topic in Structure and Written Expressions in TOEFL-like. It was proven by statistical data shown in independent sample test which shows that sig. 2-tailed is 0.015 which is smaller than 2.021.
