Abstract

This thesis is entitled “An Analysis of Main Characters and Moral Values In Oedipus The King, A Play By Sophocles. This study was aimed to analyze the characteristics of main characters, what are moral values implied in Oedipus the king play. The method used in this research is objective approach. The data were collected from the script of Oedipus the king play and by taking some references related to the play. The data were grouped and sorted based on the research questions. There are some characteristics of main characters in Oedipus the king play.Firstly, the characteristics of Oedipus are honorable and powerful, respecting others, patriotics, loving family, receiving fate sincerely, inteligent, and strong. Secondly, the characteristics of Jocasta are cruel, irresponsible, coward, patient and care, and weak. There are some moral values that we can get from this play, they are responsible, obedient, loyal, receiving fate sincerely, do not take revenge, and do not be conceited. The moral values conveyed through the main characters.
