Abstract

A thesis is defined as a scientific paper resulting from coherent, logical, and scientific research and following the rules of academic writing. In order that students’ theses can be accepted by the English Education Department, they should be grammatically well written in English. At this point, Grammar is badly needed by all thesis writers in order that they can produce good outputs as expected by the English Education Department. Therefore, the study aims to reveal the types of grammatical errors and to identify the most types of grammatical errors in students’ thesis. In this research, the researcher uses a qualitative descriptive method. This research was arranged by some procedures of error analysis. The first is analyzeddata from the collected data whether students made error or not. The second is identification of errors. The researcher put the data into the table to identify and to get the percentages of the errors in students’ thesis. The third is explanation of errors, the researcher explaining what the types of grammatical errors was found in students’ thesis. While, the last is the researcher does errors evaluation by tabulating the errors to get the percentage of each subcategory. The result of the study shows that 87 errors (33.59%) in Omission, 49 errors (18.91%) in Addition, 121 errors (46.71%) in Misformation and 2 errors (0.77%) in Misordering. Based on the result, it is figured out that the students faced difficulties in applying grammatical structures in writng.
