Abstract

The purposes of this study are (1) to investigate the translation techniques used by translator in translating subtitle of the movie The Raid: Redemption; (2) to find out the techniques mostly used by translator in translating the movie The Raid: Redemption. Ivandrofly is the translator of this movie. This study used descriptive qualitative research which is conducted descriptively. The data of this study was the subtitle of the movie The Raid: Redemption, the Indonesian subtitle and English translation subtitle. The data were analyzed by identifying the techniques proposed by Nida. The result of the study revealed that the techniques applied by the translator involved: addition, subtraction, alteration. From analysis 101 sentences, the writer discovered that translation technique of addition which was found in 70 sentences was mostly used by the translator when doing the translation. The second dominant is subtraction with 16 sentences and the rest is alteration with 15 sentences. The study only covers the translation techniques of Nida in the translation of the subtitle of the movie “The Raid: Redemption”. To get a complete description of the translation of the same object, it is felt the subtitle translation of the movie “The Raid: Redemption” could be deeply explored by looking at the translation method used by the translator or the procedure used by the translator.
