Abstract

This study aims to analyzed and find out types of error in using simple past tense in writing narrative text. The population of this study was ninth year students of SMPN 2 Lingsar in academic year 2014/2015. This data were collected using writing test, and interview and analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. From the analysis it was found that there were four types of error made by students, they were addition, misformation, omission and misordering. The dominant error Based on calculation is misformation is the error mostly made by students with the percentage 68.03% and followed by addition, omission and misordering with the percentage, 0.17%, 26.08%, 0.40%.
