Abstract

This study focused on finding out the effectiveness of pop-up book media to improve the ability to recognize the alphabet for children with mild mental retardation. This research was experimental research which conducted in SLBN 1 West Lombok. The population of this research was in the category of psychological stages age 12-15 years in the academic year 2020/2021. The researcher involved one class which consist 10 students as a sample. To collect the data, the researcher applied test and scoring rubric. The finding showed in the test shows that the students can write other people‟s names and in the scoring rubric there are 4 students in the „excellent‟ category and 6 students in the „very good‟ category where this proves that pop-up book can be a new and effective learning tool for students with special needs, especially for students with mild mental retardation. The results of this study is pop-up book is effective to improve the ability in recognizing the alphabet for children with mild mental retardation in SLBN 1 West Lombok in the academic year 2020/2021.
