Abstract

The aims of this study are to analyze students perception about google translate in general by using Broadbent (2008) theory about perception in general and chatagorized it into about types of perception by using Irwanto (2002) theory and to analyze the practical action taken by the students in the use of google translate as a tool in learning English. The participants of this study were students in English Departement, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education from Mataram University who apply the google translate machine in their learning process. This study used the questionnaire and interview results as the source data, and the data were analyzed by using qualitative descriptive method. The results of this result showed that each of the students have different designed perception in general towards the use of Google Translate and the perception comes in the diversity because of their background experience used Google Translate. Most of the students are shown to be a positive users which means they are agree about Google Translation is a helpful tools in learning English. The practical actions that the students take also comes in diversity because it adjusted to the needs of each students.
