Abstract

The study was conducted in a qualitative descriptive perspective. It attempts to identify and determine learning experiences, attitudes, perceptions, preferences, and pedagogical expectations that the students have when involved in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were thirty 4th-semester students at the English Education Department of the University of Mataram. The data were collected by using questionnaires and interviews. The result shows that students learning experiences include acquiring new technological skills that can be integrated with their previous knowledge, adapting to the new virtual environment, and also starting to be able to solve some technical problems during online learning that they have never faced before. Students' experiences in online learning during this pandemic led students to have positive attitudes and perceptions toward online learning. The students also provide information on their preferences for various online learning methods, including the delivery type, final requirement, and communication formats to support their learning process during this situation. They also put very high expectations on the institution, lecturers, and themselves to obtain effective online learning. The expectations include how the lecturers need to be clear in every instruction, objective, and material and how the institutions provide them with facilities that can support the learning process, including having a stable internet. .
