Abstract

This study is aimed (1) to find out and which method, between standard and partial dictation, is more effective in teaching listening comprehension at the 11th grade students at SMAN 1 Labuapi academic year 2015/2016 (2) to find out the reason why one of the method is more effective than other. Population of this study was all 11th students at SMAN 1 Labuapi, and the sample of this study is 60 students of 11 grade that was devided into two class containing 30 students in each class. This research is quantitative design which focuses on measuring the scores and analyzing the questionnnaires. Pre-test, post-test, and questionnaires are the instruments to collect the data. Then, the Z score of the data is measured using SSPS. To gain the standard score of the raw data, this study use the foollowing formula: T = 50 + (10 x Zscore). Based on the findings, it was found that partial dictaion is more effective than standard dictaion in which the result of difference between pre-test and post-test of each method showed that partial dictation has higher difference than standard dictaion. The difference of pre-test and post-test of partial dictation is 916.56 while Standard dictation class is 533.41. Those results indicated that Partial was more effective than Standard dictation in teaching listening comprehension at the 11th grade of SMAN 1 Labuapi in Academic year 2015/2016.Moreover, from the questionnaires it showed that Partial Dictation was more effective than Standard Dictation because Partial in listening comprehension since it was less boring, helps them improve their listening ability, increases their focus, helps students understand faster, and helps them understand the text easier.
