Abstract

This research entitled An Analysis of metaphorical expressions used in owl city’s songs lyrics attempt to describe the types and meanings of metaphor that is focused on three types of implicit metaphor, active metaphor and absolute metaphor by firstly analyzing the general meaning of the songs. The data of study were acquired from one album of owl city entitled An Ocean Eyes. The samples are taken based on the aim of the study. There are six songs taken as the samples: Vanilla Twilight, The Tip of the Iceberg, On the wing, Hello Seattle , If my heart was a house and Umbrella beach . The data are analyzed by applying descriptive analytic method. Based on the analysis researcher found that active metaphors are dominantly used in owl city’s songs.
