Abstract

This research aims to discover the types of task models used in learning speaking skills and to identify the perceptions of the students at SMPN 3 Sambelia. The research employs qualitative description to investigate the kinds of task models and to describe the perceptions between the teacher and students, which concern the use of task models in learning speaking skills. Even more, the research analyzes the students’ speaking skills using the tests performed to measure the students’ scores. The data source of research deals with the teacher and students. The finding data discover the use of task models which are applied by the teacher; role play, game, discussion, storytelling tasks. The role play task is frequently used in the learning process. And the perceptions data has the same answer in which between teacher and students prefer choice the role play as the task because the model of learning process washaving fun, more activities, and having new ideas in the learning process of speaking skills.Besides, the use of role play tasks might improve the students’ speaking skills in the post-pandemic-19 at SMPN 3 Sambelia. The role play was the dominant task used than the other task model to teach the students’ speaking skills, it means that the use of role play is the proper task of speaking skills.
