Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effects of application of various organic wastes on permanent raised-beds in the third year on growth and yield of red rice between conventional cultivation techniques and aerobic irrigation systems on permanent raised-beds. The experiment was arranged according to the Split Plot Design, consisting of two treatment factors, namely rice cultivation techniques (T1 = conventional, T2 = aerobic irrigation system on permanent beds) as the main plots and organic wastes (L0 = no waste, L1 = husks, L2=husk ash, L3=husk ash + manure) as the sub-plots. Data were analyzed with Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Honestly Significant Difference test (Tukey's HSD) at 5% level of significance using CoStat for Windows ver. 6.303. The results showed that rice cultivation technique had a significant effect on yield of red rice, in which the percentage of unfilled grain number was lower but numbers of productive tillers, panicles, and filled grain, and grain yield were higher in rice plants under T2 (aerobic irrigation system) than under T1. Application of organic wastes also had a significant effect on growth and yield variables, in which growth rates of tiller number and leaf number were higher on rice plants in L1 treatment, but filled grain number and grain yield per clump were higher in the L3 treatment. There was an interaction effect on filled grain number and grain yield, in which the highest grain yield (47.48 g/clump) was in the aerobic irrigated rice supplied with husk ash and manure (T2L3) and the lowest one (28.78 g/clump) was in the conventional rice with no application of organic wastes (T1L0)
