Abstract
One of achievement indicator in the business of bee keeping is the high level of honey production. it is highly affected by various factors such as the feed availability and continuity as the source of nectar and pollen, appropriateness of bee hives locations and physical performance of the honey bees. the keeping of local honey bees Apis cerena has long been applies, but it is yet to perform such a good result, although on the other hand it has its own advantages. The production of honey was still considerably low about 5-7 kilograms per colony per year. To date it has been known that Apis melifera, a breed of imported honey bees, has a very high production and good adaptability to the tropical climate in Indonesia. The bees can produce 30 kilograms of honey per colony per year, in addition, this type of honey has non aggressive and low absconding characteristic. Based on those conditions, it is wise and realistic to increase the production of honey using introduction of imported honey bees Apis melifera, however this action mush be followed by assistance and rigorous supervision to anticipate any negative impact related to the conservation and growth of local types of honey bees
