Abstract

This study aimed at investigating whether the implementation of Guided Writing gave a significantly positive effect in paragraph writing ability at grade VIII students of SMPN 11 Mataram. This research was conducted by using quantitative experimental method. The population in this study was 6 classes (195 students) of eight grade of SMPN 11 Mataram. The samples were two classes (70 students, each class contains 35 students) namely: VIII A as an experimental group and VIII F as a control group. They were chosen by using Purposive Sampling technique. The research data were analyzed by using t-test value. The result showed that despite the increase of students’ score from pre-test to post-test there was no significantly positive effect of Guided Writing in paragraph writing ability at grade VIII students of SMPN 11 Mataram because the t-value (1.2048) was lower than the t-table at two significant levels: .05 (95%) with 1.6676 and .01 (99%) with 2.3824.
