Abstract

This research is an experimental study using Pictionary game media for learning English for class VIII-A students of SMP Negeri 2 Mataram. This study aims to find out whether Pictionary game teaching media was effective in increasing students' vocabulary achievement and to find out the students' responses to the implementation of Pictionary games in the classroom. The sample of the study consisted of 39 students. Purposive sample technique was used to select the sample. Based on the results, the study shows that there was an enhancement of students' vocabulary abilities after being treated using Pictionary game. Calculations were carried out using Repeated Measures: Wilcoxon Signed- Rank. From the calculation results, with a sum of T equal to 76 and W-table 249, it was concluded that the W-count is less than W-table. Thus, it can be concluded that the Pictionary game media is effective for increasing the vocabulary skills of class VIII A students of SMP Negeri 2 Mataram. The null hypothesis, was rejected. In addition, based on the results of observations made by researcher, students showed positive responses in terms of their cognitive, affective, and behavioral and proved that Pictionary game teaching media is appropriate for use in the learning process to improve students' vocabulary skills in the classroom.
