Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the use of think – pair – share strategy is effective in teaching writing procedure text. This study was designed as an experimental study, the data were taken from the tests that were given before (pre – test) and after (post – test) teacher using a strategy (treatment). This experimental study took 60 students in two classes as the population as the sample. They were chosen by random sampling technique, in which 30 students were taken as the experimental class and 30 others were taken as the control class. The result shows that the value of t – test is higher than t – table, which was tested at the significance level of 95% (0.05), is 2.002 and the value of t – test is lower than t – table at the significance level of 99% (0.01) is 2.663 with the degree of freedom at 58. Those are 2.002 < 2.322 and 2.663 > 2.322. The contribution of the strategy in learning process is about 10%. Therefore, it could be concluded that the null hypothesis is rejected at the significance level of 95% (0.05) is 2.002 < 2.322. It means that the use of think – pair – share strategy is effective in teaching procedure text.
