Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the contribution of using pictures in mingling technique to support students’ speaking ability in describing things at the second grade of MTs. Darunnadwah Al- Yamini in academic year 2013/2014. This study was an experimental research. The population of this study was all of students at the second grade of MTs. Darunnadwah Al-Yamini which considered of 44 students. Population sample technique was applied in conducting the study, since the population was less than 100. This study was conducted in two groups: experimental group (VIII A) which was treated by using pictures in mingling technique and control group (VIII B) which was not treated with mingling technique. Speaking test ( pre-test and post-test ) was given to gather the data from both groups. In analyzing the data, interrater was conducted to avoid subjectivity in interpreting the data obtained from the groups. After collecting the data, it was found that the mean score of experimental group was 74. While, in control group was 68. The finding showed that t-test value was higher than t-table 4.4 > 2.021 at significant level 0.05 in degree of freedom (df) 42. It indicated that Ha (alternative hypothesis) is failed to be rejected or in other words Ho (null hypotheses) is failed to be accepted. Therefore, using pictures in mingling technique has a significant contribution in supporting students’ speaking ability in describing things.
