Abstract
This study aims to determine the distribution patterns and preferences of honey bee (Apis dorsata Fabr.) nest trees in the Brang Tampu Forest Farmer Group (KTH) area. This study used the Visual Encounter Survey (VES) method combined with 1 Ha plot method. The results showed that the honey bee (Apis dorsata Fabr.) nest trees were distributed in a clustered pattern. Nest density shows a value of 0.27 nests/Ha in the sample/observation area, the estimated number of nests in the entire area is 58.66 nests. The nesting trees of honey bee (Apis dorsata Fabr.) were found six trees including: Binong (Tetrameles nudiflora), Salam (Artocarpus elasticus), Rimas (Duabanga moluccana), Nunuk (Ficus sp.), Selayo (Albizia tomentella) and Rimas (Duabanga moluccana). The bee (Apis dorsata Fabr.) nesting tree has the characteristics of a large tree with a height of more than 20 m, a trunk diameter of more than 100 cm, a tree canopy area of more than 50 m2 , the condition of the tree canopy being open with relatively sparse crown conditions, and the location of the nest is not far from a water source with a distance of less than 400 m
