Abstract

This research aims to discover the effectiveness of using wall magazine in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge. This study was conducted at SMPN 01 Lingsar. The study is an experimental study using descriptive quantitative method. The population of this study were 114 students from five classes. Two out of five classes that consist of 47 students were chosen as the sample in this study by using purposive sampling method. The two classes were then classified into experimental (VII-1) and control group (VII-2). The techniques of data collection in this research were test and questionnaire. The test was analyzed by using t-test formula and the questionnaire was analyzed manually. Based on the test result of this research showed that there was a development on the students’ vocabulary knowledge at experimental group but not for control group. It can be seen from the mean score of pretest in experimental group were 56.909 and in control group were 42.545. in addition, there were 4 students (18%) who passed Minimum Mastery Criterion-Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM).but, in control group were no students who passed. Meanwhile, the mean score of posttest in experimental group were 81.272 and in control group 39.818. in addition, there were 20 students (91%) who passed Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM). But, in control group were no students who got higher than the Minimum Mastery Criterion (KKM). Then, the test shows that t-test value was higher than that of t-table in the confidence level .05 and in the confidence level of 01 with degree of freedom (df) 42. In addition, the questionnaire also shows linear result with the test result. It can then be concluded that wall magazine has significant effect in improving students’ vocabulary knowledge and thus it is proven effective.
