Abstract

Energy is a necessity that is needed by humans for their survival. Energy sources that are widely used at this time are fossil fuels, where their availability is dwindling. Therefore, the use of alternative energy sources that are renewable and environmentally friendly is an option. One alternative energy source that can be used is biogas. Biogas quality needs to be improved through biogas purification using the adsorption method. Biogas purification using rice husk activated charcoal adsorption method is very easy and cheap to do. This study focused on the ability of rice husk charcoal without activation and activation as an adsorbent in biogas purification. The rice husk charcoal used was activated chemically using Ca(OH)2 and physics at temperatures of 200, 400 and 600oC. The rice husk charcoal which had the best adsorption ability was activated rice husk charcoal at 600oC with a value of 81.84%. Then rice husk charcoal was activated at 200oC which had the lowest adsorption capacity with an absorption capacity of 53.72%.
