Abstract

Malnutrition is one of the health problem occurs in children under five based on body weight/height with z score -3 SD < -2 SD. Direct ethiology of malnutrition are infectious diseases, and lack of nutritional intake, so mothers also play an important role in the incidence of malnutrition. This study aimed to determine the characteristic of mothers and children under five who suffer from malnutrition This study is a descriptive observational study with a retrospective cohort design. Sample selection is based on total sampling, with sample size of 60 people. The data taken is secondary data from Dasan Tapen Public Health Center and primary data through questionnaires. Data processing is done by input, recoding, and categorical variable descriptions. There were 86.7% children under five with malnutrition had no history of infection disease but 63.3% of mothers had maternal illness history during pregnancy. 76.7% of mothers gave complementary feeding (MPASI) for the first time at 6 months and exclusively breastfed. Also 63.3% mothers with low education level. Children under five with malnutrition at the age of 12 – 24 months were found as 38.3%, birth interval ≥2 years around 63.3%, and 86.7% birth weight ≥2500 grams.
