Abstract

Nutritional information label is any information regarding food in the form of pictures, writing, a combination of both, or other forms attached to food, affixed to the part of food packaging, hereinafter in a Government Regulation, this is referred to as "label". Not paying attention to food labels can have various consequences; one of them is poisoning due to expired food. This study aims to determine the relationship between exposure to nutritional knowledge with the ability and habit of reading labels on food packaging. This study was a crosssectional study conducted at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Mataram. Subjects who meet the inclusion criteria, namely 1) are medical students of the Medical Faculty of Mataram University, batch 2018 and 2019, 2) are students who have passed block 5, 3) are willing to fill out the informed consent form. The data were collected by filling out an online questionnaire. The total number of research respondents was 140 people, 74 respondents (52,9%) had good knowledge of nutrition, 115 respondents (82,1%) had good label reading skills, 102 respondents (72,9%) had a poor habit of reading labels, 102 respondents (72,9%) have been exposed to information about labels, and the parents' income of 88 respondents in the high category (62,9%). The bivariate results showed no relationship between predisposing factors, enabling factors, and reinforcing factors with the habit of reading food labels among respondents. There is no association between nutritional knowledge, label reading ability, parental income, and exposure to information about food labels with the habit of reading food labels among medical students of the medical faculty of Mataram University
