Abstract

The use of gearbox (mechanic differential) to stabilize the wheels in the vehicles has some weaknesses. Gearbox need to be maintained and the distribution of torque from the induction motor to the wheel is not maximum because of any losses on the gear. To maximize the torque distribution in an electric car, it needs an electronic system to manage the speed of activator motor’s wheel. This research developed a differential electronic model and verified in computer simulation using Simulink MATLAB version 7.8.0 (R2009a). Both scalar control (V/F) and field oriented control were applied in the model. The simulation result shows that the electronic differential system works well just like a mechanic differential. The system is able to control the wheels properly, i.e have the same speed in the straigh road and have different speed when it turned right or left. In both control methods applied reveal that the Field Oriented Control (FOC) gives better performance than the scalar control (V/F) particularly in reaching the steady state condition and give smaller torque ripple.
