Abstract
Rempung village is one of the villages in Lombok that speaks Taliwang Sumbawan among the speakers of Sasak language in the Pringgasela district, East Lombok. Due to differences in the Taliwang Sumbawan used in Sumbawa island and in Rempung village, the Rempung people refers to their language as Rempung dialect. This research was aimed to identify the language attitude of the youth of Rempung village toward Rempung dialect and to explain the maintenance of Rempung dialect in the domains of family, neighborhood, and friendship. This study used the descriptive qualitative method. Out of 762 Rempung village’s youth, only 76 were taken as sample. The data were collected through an observation and a questionnaire. The findings of this study showed that the language attitude of the youth of Rempung village towards Rempung dialect is positive, which is shown by the high average of the questionnaire results. While the number of respondents showed the biggest role in maintaining the language by choosing to always use Rempung dialect as described in these three domains: the home domain 64.22%; the neighborhood domain 50.8%; and the friendship domain 42.12%.
