Abstract

The Effectiveness of using Jigsaw Technique in Increasing Students’ Reading Comprehension ( An Experimental Research at SMPN 23 Mataram in Academic Year 2014/2015). Mataram: English Departement in Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Mataram University. This research is entitled” The Effectiveness of Jigsaw Technique in Increasing Students‟ Reading Comprehension An Experimental Research at SMPN 23 Mataram in academic year 2014/2015. This research was an experimental research with two group design. The population of this research was all of eighth grade students of SMPN 23 Mataram in which the total number was 92 students who were divided into 3 classes. I took class VIII.A as control group and VIII.B as experimental group by using purposive sampling technique. Pre-test, treatment, and post-test were used in collecting the data. Then, I analyze it by using ttest. The result showed that the score of ttest (3.104) was higher than the score of ttable (2.021) at the confidence level .05 (95%). Therefore, null hypothesis (H0) which stated that “jigsaw technique is not effective in increasing students reading comprehension‟‟ was rejected. Meanwhile, the score of ttest (3.10) was higher than the score of the ttable (2.704) at the confidence level .01 (99%). It indicates the alternate hypothesis (Ha) which stated that “jigsaw technique is effective in increasing students reading comprehension‟‟ was accepted. It means that there was an effect of using jigsaw technique in teaching reading comprehension. Thus, jigsaw technique can increasing students‟ reading comprehension.
