Abstract

Mobula is a genus of stingrays in the family of Mobulidae, which are distributed throughout tropical ocean with warm to moderate climates. Data information about sharks and stingrays is still limited. It may also impact the survival rates of sharks and stingrays. Molecular identification is tracing the monomer sequences of particular information molecule. Molecular identification (DNA Barcoding) can be amplified with PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the species of mobula using DNA barcoding and kinship using phylogenetic trees which was landed at Tanjung Luar Fish Market, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara based on analysis of the NADH dehydrogenase 5 (ND5) gene. The steps involved in the DNA Barcoding technique include: DNA extraction, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), DNA visualization by electrophoresis, and DNA sequencing. Based on the identification results, there’s only 3 Mobula species were found, which are M.mobular, M.thrustoni and M.tarapacana. Based on the phylogenetic tree formed, the samples are from 3 different species seen from the genetic distance and clade formed. Therefore, research related to the identification of the origin of Mobula which was landed at the Tanjung Luar Fish Market needs to be carried out.
