Abstract

This research is aim at investigating English teacher’s responses to the government policy in online learning activities during covid-19 pandemic at SMPN 2 Mataram. The study involved 4 English teachers and 6 students from 8 and 9 grades as participants of the study. This is a case study qualitative research. The data were collected by interview the teacher about their experience in implementing the policy to find out their response, obstacles and the way they overcome the obstacles. Documentation is conducted to see their preparation in teaching online. Than, audio and visual materials were necessary to see how they implement it. The data were analyzed by using the following procedure: (a) analyse and describe teacher response to online learning policies (b) analyse and describe teacher’s obstacles during implementing e-learning policies (c) identify and describe the way teacher overcome the obstacles. The result of this study showed: English teacher’s responses to the government policy in online learning activities during covid-19 pandemic at SMPN 2 Mataram English teachers at SMPN 2 Mataram carry out online learning using familiar learning platforms such as Edmodo, Whatsapp, google classroom, and other learning media.However, the teacher stated that the process is not optimal when compared to offline learning. As a follow-up to improvement, it is necessary to evaluate and develop parents/stakeholders to be actively involved in assisting students.
