Abstract

Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is a freshwater fishery commodity that is quite popular among the public. The RAS system is equipped with various filters, namely physical filters in the form of sponges, chemical filters in the form of ginger coral and pumice, and is connected to aquaponics in the form of lettuce plants as biofilters. The purpose of this study was to describe the dynamics of ammonia concentrations in catfish (Clarias gariepinus) cultured recirculating systems using lettuce as a biofilter. This research was conducted descriptively with 3 treatments, namely pond 1 RAS system using lettuce biofilter with a stocking density of 1000 individuals, pond 2 RAS system with physical filters in the form of sponges, and chemical filters in the form of ginger coral and pumice with a stocking density of 1000 individuals, ponds with 3 systems RAS with a physics filter in the form of a sponge, and a chemical filter in the form of ginger coral and dense pumice were spread out 500 individuals. The results showed that the use of the RAS system using a lettuce biofilter was able to control the value of pond ammonia in the range of 0.052-0.241 mg/l, the value of ammonia after exiting the filter ranged from 0.020-0.138 mg/l, and was able to increase absolute weight growth by 55.12%, length 16.15%, SGR 6.02%, and survival rate 63%. Based on the results of this study, lettuce plants can be applied as biofilters in high density catfish farming
