Abstract
he objective of the study was to investigate the prospect of local fig fruit (Ficusglumerata Rob) extract in semen extender to preserve Boer cross breed buck sperm progressive motility that was stored at 4-5 C. The sperm were diluted using eight different diluents namely Tris and egg yolk (v/v) + 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7% (S0, S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, and S7) fig fruit extract, respectively. Sperm were evaluated for the percentages of progressive motility immediately after extended and every 24 hours for 144 hours storing time. The experimental results suggest that, the highest sperm progressive motility at 144 hours after extended and stored maintained by S4 (39.0±2.33) and S6 (38.0±2.49) compared to the S0, S1, S2, S3, and S5 those were 32.0±1.86; 30.0±2.11; 29.0±1.80; 31.5±3.66; and 34.5±3.02; respectively. The lowest sperm progressive motility among all treatments at 144 hours was S7 (22.0±3.59). In conclusion, local fig fruit extract able to maintain the progressive motility of goat spermatozoa and the optimum concentration of fig fruit as semen exterder are 4 and 6%.
