Abstract
WHO reports the number of drowning cases of 322,000 victims in 2016. Indonesia as an archipelagic country reports that the number of cases of drowning is 3.3 per 100 thousand people, which is close to 9,000 people in 2016. This number is very worrying because the number is higher than deaths due to malnutrition. , HIV infection, and mothers giving birth. The focus of previous research was the incidence of acute lung injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome due to drowning, but research in recent years has begun to examine the impact of water immersion on injuries both in the central nervous system/trauma brain injury/TBI. With the discovery of an increase in wound fatality in cases of drowning, the focus of treatment is expected not only on ALI and ARDS but also on TBI. The results of this study indicate that there is damage to the brain and heart tissue due to drowning with different gradations. The picture of brain cells is the presence of edema and congestion in the cells. Meanwhile, in the heart cells there is a picture of edema and inflammatory cell infiltration. Meanwhile, in cases of non- drowning, no edema, congestion and inflammatory cell infiltration were found.
