Abstract

This study aims to determine the nutritional content of feed and eating behavior of Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) in Sanctuary at Wisma Daerah, Sumbawa Regency. This research is expected to be the basis and consideration for deer captive managers in general and deer captive breeding in Sumbawa Regency in particular for better feed management in the future. This study uses an observation method that requires direct observation and uses a scan sampling method. Observations were made at 5 minute intervals from 06.00 - 18.00 WIB for 14 days with the parameters recorded including: taking food (selection of food by smell), putting it in the mouth, chewing, swallowing and ruminating. The results of this study showed that the type of feed given consisted of Peking grass (Agrostis stolonifera), Kangkung (Ipomoea aquatic), Centro plant (Centrocema pubescens) and Gamal (Gliricidia sepium). The highest moisture content is in Gamal (G. sepium) with a value of 11.19%, the highest ash content is in Kangkung (I. aquatic) with a value of 10.68%, the highest crude fat content is in Gamal (G. sepium) with a value of 3 0.45%, the highest crude fiber content in centro plants (C. pubescens) with a value of 17.90% and the highest protein content in centro plants (C. pubescens) with a value of 20.50%. The eating behavior of the Timor deer (Rusa timorensis) in the Wisma Regional Deer Captivity of Sumbawa Regency consists of chewing feed by 35.58%, then entering feed by 21%, selecting and taking feed by 18.57%, ruminate at 17.29% and the lowest percentage is swallowing by 7.56%.
