Abstract

The existence of figurative language as a way of delivering a hidden message helps the song writer in composing and producing an impactful and meaningful songs. By using figurative language, the singer could convey the messages existed in a song in a brief and meaningful way. Furthermore a song titled “Eye of the Tiger” attracts the researcher’s attention on doing an analysis about the types of figurative language. This study then focuses on analyzing the types of figurative language and its meaning found in the song lyric entitled “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. The aims of the study are to identify, classify and describe the meaning of the types of figurative language used in the song “Eye of the Tiger”. This study is using descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study is the song lyric titled “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor which is taken from azlyrics.com. This study applies document analysis as the method in collecting the data. The result of data analysis shows that there are five types of figurative language found in the song lyric titled “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. They are Metaphor, Simile, Hyperbole, Personification and Alliteration. Furthermore, the meaning of these types of figurative language is also described by the researcher.
