Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of soaking time on the absorption, retention and penetration values of sengon wood (Paraserianthes falcataria) using the cold soaking method, to determine the effect of the concentration of coconut shell liquid smoke preservative (Cocos nucifera L) on the absorption, retention and penetration values of sengon wood (Paraserianthes falcataria) by cold soaking method, and to determine the interaction between soaking time and concentration of coconut shell liquid smoke preservative (Cocos nucifera L ) on absorption, retention and penetration values by cold immersion method. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Forest Product Technology Study Program at the University of Mataram. The design used in this study was a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which was carried out from March to May 2022. From this study, absorption values were obtained ranging from 0.142 to 0.199 gr/cm3 with an average value of 0.175 gr/cm3. Theoretical retention values ranged from 0.008-0.029 gr/cm3 with an average value of 0.017 gr/cm3 while the actual retention ranged from 0.001-0.004 gr/cm3 with an average value of 0.002 gr/cm3. and penetration values ranged from 1.233-1.496 cm with an average value of 1.386 cm. The conclusion of this study is that the length of soaking time only has a significant effect on the absorption value and theoretical retention value of sengon wood with coconut shell liquid smoke preservative. The best length of soaking time is allowed to be treated with a long soaking time of 6 days (P2) and for the concentration of the preservative only has a significant effect on the theoretical retention value, the best concentration of the preservative is produced by a concentration of 15%. The best interaction between the length of soaking time and the concentration of preservatives was produced by the long soaking time of 6 days with a concentration of 15% (P2K3).
