Abstract
InthestudythespecimenswereASTMA36lowcarbonsteelpackcarburizingat950°C,soakingtimevariationsof1,2and3hours.Thecarburizingagentisamixtureofcoconutshellcharcoalandgoatbonepowder(Capraaegagrushircus).Thesizeofthepowderis100mesh,withvariationsinweightpercentagebetweengoatbonepowderandcoconutshellcharcoal:10%:90%,20%:80%,and30%:70%.Furthermore,theimpacttest,hardness,microstructuretestandcompositiontestwerecarriedout,todeterminethemechanicalpropertiesofthespecimens.Theresultsofthestudyshow,soakingtimeandthecompositionofthecarburizingagentaffectthemechanicalpropertiesofthespecimenThelowestimpacttoughnessof0,0576joules/mm2wasobtainedbythespecimenatasoakingtimeof1hour,thecompositionofthecarburizingagent(%wtgoatbonepowder:coconutshellcharcoal)20%:80%.Thehighestsurfacehardnessvaluewas854.734kg/mm2at3hourssoakingtimewith10%:90%carburizingmediacomposition.Theresultsofmicrostructureobservationsshowedthatinspecimenstreatedwithpackcarburizingferritestructure,pearliteturnedintomartensite
