Abstract

In the traditional process of drying rice crackers (rengginang), workers often assume unnatural positions, such as bending and reaching away from their natural posture. As a result, they can experience musculoskeletal disorders due to poor working positions. Exposure to direct sunlight during traditional drying can increase heart rate, leading to increased workload and easy fatigue. To reduce the workload during rice cracker drying activities under the sun, a drying device design was created based on the anthropometric data of the workers. Anthropometric data collected included eye height in an upright position to determine the height of the topmost shelf in the drying area, hand grip height to determine the height of the bottom shelf in the drying area, maximum reach height in a standing position for the placement of control equipment, standing elbow height to determine the height of the door handle, elbow span as the maximum width for the rack length, and gripping reach as the maximum width for the rack width. The drying device design was created in accordance with the anthropometric data from 25 worker samples, resulting in dimensions for the drying device, including a bottom shelf height of 617.53 mm, a top shelf height of 1285.39 mm, a maximum control equipment height of 1649.01 mm, and a door handle height of 876.98 mm. Anthropometric data were also collected to determine the dimensions of the rack, with a maximum rack length of 711.96 mm and a maximum rack width of 525.49 mm.
