Abstract

The new curriculum called Merdeka has been launched by the Ministry of Education since 2022. The current study aims to identify the teachers’ knowledge and agentic strategies to plan, implement, and assess the teaching and learning processes in responding to the new curriculum. The state vocational high school teachers in West Lombok have been involved as the participants of the study. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and document study before being analyzed qualitatively and descriptively using the Theory of Teacher Agency (Ali and Hamid, 2018). The results show that the teachers have insufficient knowledge about Merdeka Belajar due to personal factors like lack of information or socialization from school. Furthermore, the teachers exercise three agentic strategies: dedication, accommodation, and resistance. They were dedicated to organizing the teachingrelated documents and accommodating the P5 project and assessment. However, the teachers were mostly resisting the implementation. Thus, the Merdeka Curriculum cannot be fully implemented in the State Vocational School.
