Abstract

The cylinder block functions as a source of engine power and there are two types of cylinder blocks, repairable and non-repairable. To utilize cylinder blocks that cannot be repaired, recycling is carried out by casting metal with variations in the addition of 5%, 15% and 25% magnesium (Mg) with a casting temperature of 900 0C using a metal press mold. Data collection was carried out using the Charpy Impact test, Pin On Disk wear test with three test objects for each variation. The microstructure was observed and photographed using a light microscope with 400x magnification. The results showed that the lowest average Impact Price was found in the 25% addition of magnesium (Mg) with an average value of 0.08 Joule/mm2 and the highest average value in the pure cylinder block variation of 0.20 Joule/mm2 . The highest average wear value was in the pure cylinder block variation and the lowest average value was in the 25% magnesium (Mg) addition variation. And the microstructure from observations, photos and fractions in Mg2Si casting results is smaller than Al FCC.
