Abstract
Locally grown Senang tobacco is highly favored by the community, especially among those who enjoy smoking on the island of Lombok. The uniqueness of this local tobacco lies not only in its popularity but also in its relatively high price. Senang local tobacco is a crop cultivated exclusively in the Senang Village area of Pringgabaya. Despite its limited cultivation area, the chemical and physical properties of the soil play a vital role in determining soil fertility and plant growth quality. Cultivation techniques also play a crucial role in the successful cultivation of tobacco plants. This research aims to determine the soil properties and cultivation techniques of Senang local tobacco in East Lombok Regency. The study was conducted in a tobacco field located in Senang Village, Batuyang Village, Pringgabaya District, East Lombok Regency. The research was carried out from July to September 2023, involving activities such as soil sampling, interviews with tobacco farmers, and soil analysis. The results indicate that the soil has very low total nitrogen, available phosphorus ranging from very low to high, very high exchangeable potassium, low available iron, moderate available copper, very low available zinc, and the soil texture is classified as sandy clay loam, sandy clay, dusty clay, and clay. One noticeable difference in the cultivation techniques for Senang local tobacco, compared to other tobacco cultivation techniques, is the irrigation method employed.
