Abstract

This study is entitled “Hotel Employees’ Perception of English Use for Communication in the Receptionist Job”. This study aims to find out how hotel receptionists perceive their ability to use English related to their jobs and describe the language problem receptionists face when communicating with foreign tourists in English. The subject in this study is the receptionists who worked at MRT Hotel Senggigi Lombok, while the total number of subjects who participated in this study was 5 receptionists. The result of the study shows the receptionists perceived their speaking ability enough to communicate and understand what a guest meant. They consider themselves to be able to communicate with guests by only understanding one keyword that could be inferred from what the guests meant. The receptionists explained that the British accent, lack of vocabulary, and hearing skills were the problems faced by receptionists.
